Rising Star Award Winner 2023 – CanScribe Student

CanScribe is proud to announce that one of its students is the Rising Star Award winner for 2023. Because CanScribe has an approved Medical Transcription / Healthcare Documentation program, students in this program are eligible to win this award. Laurel Bentley has been a fantastic student and is very deserving of this award. The CanScribe team interviewed Laurel to share a little more information about her.

What does winning this award mean to you?

Winning this award is such an honour; words can’t express how grateful I am. I  get to show my kids that anything is possible.

What made you choose to train as an MT/HDS?

Working outside of the home while raising a family is challenging. Once I heard that I can work from home as an MT/HDS, I knew this is the career for me. I get to continue my passion for working in Healthcare, all while raising my family. I get to have the best of both worlds.

What are your personal and professional goals as you move toward a new career?

My personal and professional goals as I move into my new career are to be more present with my family and continue to grow and be the best I can be as an MT/HDS.

What made you choose to study/work from home?

Having the flexibility of learning online, made the decision of studying from home the best option.

What made you choose CanScribe?

I chose CanScribe for its flexibility, support and insight from instructors and online learning platform. They made the process of going back to school a breeze.

What are your biggest motivators in finding a new career?

My biggest motivator in finding a new career is my family. Being able to have a schedule where I work from home so I don’t miss out on seeing my kids grow.

What advice would you give to new students?

The advice I would give new students is don’t be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone. It is overwhelming and rewarding all at the same time learning something new, but you’ll be amazed at what you can accomplish with self-belief, hard work and determination.

About the Rising Star Award

This award is presented by the Association of Healthcare Documentation Integrity (AHDI) to the student or recent graduate who has shown outstanding achievement and effort in the healthcare industry. Students are required to submit essays describing their situation and answering questions outlined by the board at AHDI. This is the third CanScribe student to be announced as the Rising Star Award winner in the last four years.
