Colleen Chapman

Chief Executive Officer
Colleen’s career trajectory began at the ripe age of 5, when she sold programs at the local hockey rink. Entrepreneurial at heart, after college and while working in the advertising industry, she started Detroit Studios and opened her own consulting business. She founded CanScribe in 2002 and Docnito in 2010. In 2017 she joined Focus College as President and co-founded Weave Enterprises. In 2020, she received the Distinguished Service Award from AHDI, was recognized in 2022 by CER as one of the Top 20 People Changing Career Education and was interviewed in 2024 for DotCom Magazine’s Entrepreneur Spotlight Television Series. And apparently not busy enough, she published a children’s picture book - Did You See That Elephant Fly By? – in 2023 and completed her online MBA from the University of Warwick Business School in 2024.
Her philanthropic activities include 12+ years coaching youth soccer, active board member of non-profit organizations, angel investing, volunteer work, funding micro-loans for women in Nepal and Pakistan and initiating a “Carry Out Kindness Campaign” at work for staff to help the less fortunate in their local communities. Outside of work, Colleen enjoys spending time with her friends and family, playing pickleball, hiking and travelling.
Justin Chapman

Chief Operating Officer
Justin, a proud Kelowna resident since 1999. Justin's academic journey led him to the University of British Columbia - Okanagan, where he graduated with a degree in Management, specializing in Marketing. His time at UBCO wasn't just limited to the campus; Justin also embarked on a transformative semester abroad at the University of Birmingham in England, now holding Birmingham dear as a second home. Taking is education global, Justin was able to learn a lot about how a college should treat its students and has always pushed the team to ensure CanScribe offers unmatched student and graduate support.
In 2021, Justin was awarded the Distinguished Service Award by AHDI. Although Justin considers this a team award at CanScribe, he is honoured to be recognized.
Recently embracing fatherhood for a second time, Justin finds his greatest joy in spending quality time with his two young sons, while jugging diaper changing and bedtime Justin envisions a future where he watches every Canucks game with his boys, is able to coach them in soccer and spends every weekend teaching his two sons how to fish. Needless to say, Justin is a massive Canucks fan and is in love with coaching soccer. Just has also taken his love for fishing and his experience in marketing to open his own online fishing company, Chapman Outdoors. Justin took the concept of helping students at CanScribe find their passion and implemented his passion for fishing as a fun, business past-time.
Taylor Chapman

Operations Manager
Taylor was born in Calgary but moved to Kelowna, B.C. at a young age. After high school, Taylor moved to Vancouver to study nursing and play varsity volleyball at Douglas College. She then moved back to Kelowna to complete her Licensed Practical Nursing diploma at Okanagan College.
Taylor spent 5 years nursing at Kelowna General Hospital before coming to CanScribe. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends. Most of her days involve a walk with her dog and end with knitting in front of the fire. She also enjoys trying out new restaurants and playing board games.
Jamie Podmorow

Business Development Manager
Jamie, a proud native of British Columbia's coastal region, whose journey in education and service spans over a quarter-century. Graduating from both Pacific Vocational Institute and Douglas College in BC, Jamie has accumulated a wealth of experience in instructional and management roles within Dentistry, Curriculum Development, and Instruction.
Alongside her husband and two adult children, Jamie finds fulfillment not only in her professional endeavors but also in her commitment to serving the local and global community, with a particular emphasis on advocating for human rights. This passion for social justice often intertwines with her love for travel, allowing Jamie to engage in activism across the globe.
However, amidst her global pursuits, Jamie's heart remains firmly rooted in the bonds of family and the tranquility of her surroundings. She treasures moments spent camping amidst the natural splendor of the Okanagan and delights in partaking in the myriad activities the region offers. With her dedication to education, service, and advocacy, Jamie embodies the spirit of compassion and exploration, enriching both her personal and professional spheres with her boundless energy and passion for positive change.
Deborah Deschamps

Admissions Representative
Deborah was born and raised in a small, rural, northwestern Ontario community, lived in the United States for a few years, then moved to beautiful Kelowna, BC. Wishing to be closer to family, she has now relocated and works from her home office on the prairies near Saskatoon, SK.
Her background includes over 20 years of experience in teaching high school and elementary school in multiple subject areas and she holds a travel/tourism degree.
She enjoys helping people reach their full potential and loves to encourage them to achieve more than what they think is possible. She would be happy if you contacted her about the program.
Georgia Triantafillou

Admissions Representative
Born into Greek roots and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Georgia brings a vibrant mix of passion and professionalism to the CanScribe team. With a background in Business Administration and Marketing, and additional certifications in Social Media Marketing and Public Speaking, she loves connecting with potential students and helping them guiding them along their educational path.
Outside of work, Georgia’s energy shines through her many interests, from practicing martial arts since the age of 11 to performing Greek and Latin dance. She’s also a confident public speaker who has proudly MC’d numerous events. Georgia’s enthusiasm and dedication make her a dynamic part of the CanScribe family.
Carolyn Tholenaer

Student Services Representative
Meet Carolyn, a proud native of Calgary who made the picturesque landscapes of British Columbia her home in 1998. With a rich and diverse professional background, Carolyn brings a wealth of experience to her role at CanScribe.
Before joining our team in 2007, Carolyn ventured into the realms of Real Estate and Marketing, honing her skills in client relations and strategic communication. Her journey also led her through the vibrant world of Travel & Tourism, reflecting her own passion for exploration and adventure.
At CanScribe, Carolyn is more than just an employee; she's a beacon of exceptional customer service. Dedicated to guiding students through every step of their educational journey, from enrollment to graduation and beyond, Carolyn embodies the true essence of support and dedication. Beyond her professional endeavors, Carolyn finds joy in traveling, experiencing new cultures, and embracing life's adventures. With her commitment to excellence and genuine care for our students, Carolyn is an invaluable asset to our team.
Deb Palmer

Instructional Department Manager
Deb, lives all the way over on Prince Edward Island and is one of CanScribe’s pioneering graduates from the Medical Transcription/Healthcare Documentation Program, with extensive experience as an MT and QA specialist.
Deb's passion lies in nurturing talent and advancing the industry, not only through guiding students but also by representing the field through her involvement with AHDI, where her outstanding contributions were recognized when she received the AHDI Educator of the Year Award in 2019, highlighting her commitment to excellence and leadership in the field.
Laurie Monks

MT/HDS Instructor
Laurie, hails from southern Ontario with a rich tapestry of experiences.
For 25 years, Laurie showcased her agility and skill as a soccer goalie, all while contributing to the sport through coaching and refereeing. Transitioning into the realm of healthcare, Laurie embarked on a fulfilling career as a registered massage therapist before furthering her education at CanScribe's MT/HDS program, graduating with high honors in 2011.
Since joining the CanScribe family in 2015, Laurie has found immense fulfillment in guiding and supporting our students on their educational journey.
Outside of work, Laurie embraces the simple joys of life, whether it's tending to her garden, delving into a good book, capturing moments through photography, or cheering on the Boston Celtics alongside her husband.
Paula Maheffey

Leslie Meger

MT/HDS Instructor
Leslie was born in Chamberlin, SK where she lives on a ranch which she proudly calls home. With a background rooted in the food service industry, Leslie's journey took a pivotal turn when she stumbled upon an ad for CanScribe while her children were in school. Intrigued by the allure of the medical field, Leslie pursued her passion by enrolling in CanScribe's program, graduating with honors in 2012.
Following her education, Leslie honed her skills during a practicum with Accentus, now known as Nuance, before joining the CanScribe team in January 2017 as an educational assistant. With determination and dedication, Leslie obtained her CHDS credentialing exam, propelling her into the role of instructor.
Today, Leslie channels her expertise and passion for the field into guiding and inspiring the next generation of medical transcriptionists.
Monique Rasmussen

Angie Acevedo

Accountant
Originally from Bogotá, Colombia, Angie Acevedo now calls Canada home.
As a Public Accountant specializing in International Accounting Standards, Angie brings over a decade of experience in accounting processes and procedures, including SAP implementation, to her role. Beyond her professional expertise.
She enjoys reading, walking, and listening to a variety of music genres, including R&B/Soul and Rock. Angie is also dedicated to her community, volunteering for a non-profit organization where she assists in preparing tax returns.
Lori Gullason

Operations Administrator
Lori is a valued member of our team here at CanScribe. Originally hailing from the mining industry with over a decade of experience, Lori made a bold career move in 2021, relocating to Kelowna, BC to be closer to her family.
She transitioned seamlessly into our Medical Transcription/Healthcare Documentation Specialist (MT/HDS) program and graduated with flying colors.
Drawing from her diverse background, Lori brings a wealth of knowledge and a strong work ethic to her role. Her years in the medical transcription world have honed her skills, providing her with a solid foundation that she utilizes daily.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Lori is an avid hockey fan, often spending her free time cheering for her favorite teams. With her dedication and passion, Lori is an integral part of our team, contributing to our success each day.
Braeden Vandervelde

Operations Administrator/CompTIA A+ Instructor
Meet Braeden Vandervelde, a key member of the CanScribe team. Originally from Prince George, BC, Braeden holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and brings a strong background in technology and problem-solving. He was drawn to CanScribe by a desire to use his skills and adaptability in a meaningful way—helping others grow and succeed in their careers.
Outside of work, Braeden is a self-proclaimed hobby enthusiast with too many pastimes to count. These days, he’s especially passionate about motorcycling and exploring creative ways to improve access to co-working spaces. His curiosity, energy, and drive to support others make him a valued part of the CanScribe community.
Carla Gomez

Executive Assistant
Originally from Venezuela, Carla brings a diverse educational background and a strong passion for helping others succeed. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in International Trade from Venezuela and an Associate of Arts in Psychology from Canada. Her love for education and organization led her to CanScribe, where she found the perfect opportunity to combine her skills while contributing to a supportive learning environment.
After spending several years focusing on her own academic journey, Carla felt inspired to join a college where she could support students on their own paths to success. At CanScribe, she’s excited about the chance to grow professionally, collaborate across departments, and be part of a team that values progress and community.
Outside of work, Carla enjoys taking long walks, often 2 to 3 hours a day, regardless of the weather. These strolls are her time to unwind, reflect, and stay active. She's also a self-taught baker and loves sharing her homemade Venezuelan favorites like arepas and empanadas with the team (they're always a hit!).
Ben Gammel

Marketing Specialist
Ben, our newest addition to the team, bringing a fresh perspective and boundless enthusiasm straight from Olds, AB. Born in the picturesque landscapes of West Kelowna, BC, Ben ventured to Olds in pursuit of his Agribusiness degree in 2020.
During his time at Olds College, Ben didn't just hit the books; he also hit the volleyball court, dedicating four years to varsity volleyball and showcasing his teamwork skills and competitive spirit. Now, ready to put his learning to use, Ben is thrilled to kickstart his career journey with CanScribe. Eager to soak up knowledge and contribute his best, he's ready to dive into the world of work with passion and dedication. Beyond the office, Ben's heart lies with his loved ones—his family and his faithful canine companion, Obi (yes, named after Obi Wan Kenobi). And when he's not spending quality time with them, you'll find him eagerly awaiting the next Seattle Seahawks game, counting down the days until kickoff.
Daisy Chapman

CanScribe Mascot
Daisy was born in Keremeos, BC and raised in Kelowna. She has proudly taken the mantle of CanScribe’s official mascot. Daisy takes her role as mascot very seriously by strolling around the office always ready for a good head scratch. She enjoys going for walks and meeting new people but her favorite thing to do is hang out with her family.
